<p>Being a personal trainer and weight management coach for over 20 years working with Hollywood stars and big corporate CEOs, I notice most of the failures are not because the lacking of knowledge.  Actually some of my students know so much about nutrition, calories, exercises, metabolism rate, BMI.  Sometimes the knowledge they have about different alternative weight loss methods e.g. oxygen, high temperature yoga…are more than I do.  So it’s really not about things they don’t know.</p>
<p>It’s about the intention!</p>
<p>Like many other things in life, there is no failure in any decent weight loss program, there is only quitting.  When you stop taking your pace in the program, when you give in your carve for oily and sweet foods, when you let your laziness and excuses sink in during work out time, when you enjoy big meals with friends and say “it’s the last time.  Tomorrow I will stick to the plan”, you quite!</p>
<p>In my years of experience working with diverse types of people, I find the successful rates amongst different groups are indeed varied.   As you can imagine, Hollywood movie stars usually have a higher successful rate in maintaining a slim body.  People having serious health issues due to weight problem come the second, while CEOs and politicians in the third.</p>
<p>So what are the successful factors of weight losing?  How to maintain a healthy weight really for lifetime?  How can you remain self-disciple over a lengthy period of time against attractiveness of (unhealthy) foods?</p>
<p>According to my observation, there are basically three factors for anyone to success in this lengthy battle.   They are: need, desire and support in that sequence.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Need</strong></span></p>
<p>As you can see from the three groups who have a higher rate in achieving their weight loss goal, you can see a fundamental criterion.  They all have an urged need for maintaining a healthy weight or a slim body shape.  For the Hollywood stars, it is their career that hooks with a nice and admirable body shape.   Needless to say, people with health problem are forced to follow the weight loss program to keeping themselves alive.  And for politicians and CEOs, their voters’ support or businesses require them to be healthy, have a better personal image and be self-disciplined.  Fear is usually more powerful than want.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Desire</strong></span></p>
<p><a href="http://weightlosseatingout.com/shop-for-healthy-weight/"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-153" style="margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;" title="Diet journal " src="http://weightlosseatingout.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/bikini-copy.jpg" alt="slim body on diet journal" width="263" height="263" /></a>Although there is no pressing needs, desire is another forceful drive for one to stay in the course.  I always ask my students to put photo or object for self-motivation.  For example, some may place an old photo of their 20s to remain how beautiful they were and can be.  A lady with waist of 40 inches bough a bikini 2 sizes smaller and hangs it in front of her wardrobe.  The GM of a worldwide car dealer company even draw his idea face and body shape in his mirror to remain how far he is after his task everyday.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Support</strong></span></p>
<p>Human beings are social animals.  We do not want to be isolated; we gain more power when we are being supported by others.  In my classes, I always assign partnership between students.  They can be two or three members in one team and they report to each other their progress, their frustration and share their excitement amongst themselves.</p>
<p>By doing so, the result is dramatic.  On one hand, the students gain the support and encouragement without feeling they are struggling alone.  On the other hand, they got kidda “scrutinized” and feel more obliged to the program and other team members.  They become responsible for the progress of the whole team.</p>

<p>* <strong> Cardiorespiratory (CR) endurance</strong> &#8211; the efficiency with which the body delivers oxygen and nutrients needed for muscular activity and transports waste products from the cells.</p>
<p>*  <strong>Muscular strength </strong>- the greatest amount of force a muscle or muscle group can exert in a single effort.</p>
<p>*  <strong>Muscular endurance </strong>- the ability of a muscle or muscle group to perform repeated movements with a sub-maximal force for extended periods of times.</p>
<p>*  <strong>Flexibility</strong> &#8211; the ability to move the joints or any group of joints through an entire, normal range of motion.</p>
<p>*  <strong>Body composition</strong> &#8211; the percentage of body fat a person has in comparison to his or her total body mass.</p>
<p>Improving the first three components of fitness listed above will have a positive impact on body composition and will result in less fat. Excessive body fat detracts from the other fitness components, reduces performance, detracts from appearance, and negatively affects your health.</p>
<p>Factors such as speed, agility, muscle power, eye-hand coordination, and eye-foot coordination are classified as components of &#8220;motor&#8221; fitness. These factors most affect your athletic ability. Appropriate training can improve these factors within the limits of your potential. A sensible weight loss and fitness program seeks to improve or maintain all the components of physical and motor fitness through sound, progressive, mission specific physical training.</p>
<h2><span style="color: #800000;">Principles of Exercise</span></h2>
<p>Adherence to certain basic exercise principles is important for developing an effective program. The same principles of exercise apply to everyone at all levels of physical training, from the Olympic-caliber athlete to the weekend jogger.</p>
<p>These basic principles of exercise must be followed.</p>
<p><strong>Regularity</strong></p>
<p>To achieve a training effect, you must exercise often. You should exercise each of the first four fitness components at least three times a week. Infrequent exercise can do more harm than good. Regularity is also important in resting, sleeping, and following a sensible diet.</p>
<p><strong>Progression</strong></p>
<p>The intensity (how hard) and/or duration (how long) of exercise must gradually increase to improve the level of fitness.</p>
<p><strong>Balance</strong></p>
<p>To be effective, a program should include activities that address all the fitness components, since overemphasizing any one of them may hurt the others.</p>
<p><strong>Variety</strong></p>
<p>Providing a variety of activities reduces boredom and increases motivation and progress.</p>

<p>A hard day of training for a given component of fitness should be followed by an easier training day or rest day for that component and/or muscle group(s) to help permit recovery. Another way to allow recovery is to alternate the muscle groups exercised every other day, especially when training for strength and/or muscle endurance.</p>
<p><strong>Overload</strong></p>
<p>The work load of each exercise session must exceed the normal demands placed on the body in order to bring about a training effect.</p>

<h1><span style="color: #333300;"><strong>A</strong>dequacy of Diet</span></h1>
<p>Putting yourself into starvation would not help with weight lose.  You cannot always eat than adequate and even if you lose several pounds in the process, it&#8217;s will bounce back very quickly.   Actually when you suddenly are deprived of proper nutrition, your body will want to hold on to whatever fat reserves and nutrients it has.  It only defeat your weight loss program.</p>
<p>Moderation is the key.  Plan your entire day&#8217;s diet so that you juggle nutrient sources.</p>
<h1><span style="color: #333300;"><strong>B</strong>alance in Diet</span></h1>
<p>Choose foods from all five food groups every day:</p>
<ul>
<li>Milk, yogurt, and cheese</li>
<li>Meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts</li>
<li>Vegetable</li>
<li>Fruit</li>
<li>Bread, cereal, rice, and pasta</li>
</ul>
<p>As a reference, you may follow the Food-Pyramid i your daily diet.  There are different versions of food-pyramid, but here is the most popular one adopted by USDA (US Department of Agriculture):</p>

<p>The basic formula for weight management is indeed very simple. (apart from weight issues due to drug, genetics and other environmental reasons)</p>
<p>When your calories intake (eating) &gt; output (exercises, metabolism etc)  ==&gt; weigh gain</p>

<p>It refers to the variety of different types of foods within each food group.  A variety of foods is best because no one food meets all your nutrient needs.   Therefore variety not only makes meals more interesting, it helps ensure that a diet contains sufficient nutrients.</p>
<h1><span style="color: #333300;"><strong>E</strong>xercise on a Regular Basis</span></h1>
<p>Exercise, calorie spending,  is the other side of the formula.  Do exercise regularly, not to burn out in one day and sit all day for the next whole month.  Make at least 30 minutes exercises preferably everyday, or at least twice a week.  You easily blend exercises even in your buy life.     See our blog earlier on.</p>
<p>So, just stay with the ABCED principle and you will achieve your desire weight and body shape easily.  Well, the difficult part?  Certainly is to implement it.  However we understand it only takes 21 days to build up a new habit.  And habit is important as it is working every minute, every second for or against you.</p>

<p>Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to afford all of that <a href="http://www.weightlosseatingout.com/resources">fancy equipment</a> used in the gyms? Well, as nice as it sounds, <a href="http://www.fitwatch.com/weight-loss/exercise-equipment-wish-list-338.html"></a>it just isn’t an option for most people. And since exercise is so important, you need to find exercises that are effective and don’t require any equipment at all.</p>
<p>Now you have no more excuses! Here are 10 great exercises that you can do at home, without the need for any equipment:</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Walking</strong> – If the      weather is nice, it’s wonderful to get outside and enjoy the scenery      around you while you exercise. However, if the weather has other ideas,      you can just as easily get an effective walking workout at home. If you      have a flight of stairs, go up and down them a few times. (You could even      grab a load of laundry as you’re going that way anyway!) This will help to      tone up your legs, while getting some low impact aerobic exercise as well.      If you don’t have any stairs available, just walk around the house a few      times – it may not be very exciting, but it will do the job!</li>
<li><strong>Jumping Jacks </strong>– These are      always fun, as they bring back memories of being a kid! Who hasn’t done      jumping jacks for fun as a child? Well, surprise – they are also great      cardio exercises, and good for warming up, too.</li>
<li><strong>Pushups </strong>– These are      probably not the most favorite exercise of many people, but while they can      be hard to do, you can find easier ways to do them. You don’t need to      pretend you’re “Rocky”, and do them with one hand; just do what works for      you. Do them on your knees, instead of keeping your legs straight. Or, do      them standing up against a wall. You will be building up arm strength and      working out muscles in your chest area.</li>
<li><strong>Leg Lifts</strong> – These are      great for building up strength and muscles in your legs. If you find it      hard to do the exercises with your legs straight, try bending them      slightly.</li>
<li><strong>Crunches</strong> – The best      exercise for building up and strengthening abdominal muscles. When you’re      just getting started, don’t worry about getting your head all the way up.      So long as you’re going up until you feel the stretching of the muscles,      you will see some benefit.</li>
<li><strong>Jogging In Place</strong> – Jogging      is a great exercise for your heart. You can jog in place at home while      watching TV or listening to music. The only equipment you will require is      a good pair of shoes, to eliminate any stress to your legs.</li>
<li><strong>Squats</strong> – These are      wonderful exercises for your legs and buttocks. You can even just try      these by sitting and standing up again from a regular chair, if you’re      finding them to be too difficult. As long as you’re able to do a few      repetitions, you will be providing some benefit to your body.</li>
<li><strong>Light Weight Lifting</strong> – No, you      don’t need to go out and buy expensive weights for this! Just use whatever      you can find in your house. Start out with something lighter, such as a      can of peas, and work yourself up to heavier items. You can use milk jugs,      laundry detergent bottles or even water jugs.</li>
<li><strong>Dancing</strong> – Dancing      is a wonderful exercise, which is great for your heart. Not only that, but      it can lift your spirits as well, and give your overall feeling a boost.</li>
<li><strong>Step Exercises</strong> – Using the      steps in your home, you can do repetitions which will tone your leg      muscles. (Just remember to be careful!)</li>
</ol>
<p>Getting some exercise is important, but you don’t need to go out and join a gym, paying a large amount in membership fees each month. You don’t even need the expensive equipment in order to give your body an effective workout. Use what you have in your house, and work out in the comfort of your home. You will be more likely to keep up with the exercises when you’re comfortable, so just get up and start exercising!</p>
